Coral reef fish communities of natural habitats and man-made coastal structures in Bora-Bora (French Polynesia)

چکیده
Coastal habitats have long been recognised to be nurseries and growing grounds for many marine organisms. Worldwide, coastal hardening urbanisation are leading the removal of natural ecosystems. The tropical island Bora-Bora in South Pacific has undergone extensive changes, with construction seawalls along more than half its coastline since 1950s. daytime night-time juvenile adult fish communities were surveyed multiple temporal replicates on a range lagoon Bora-Bora. Over 47% all juveniles. Mangroves, traditionally viewed as nurseries, had high abundance juveniles, but less 1% consists mangroves. manmade seawalls, which most common type habitat island, associated lower densities during day promoted presence predators. comparison sites also highlighted contrasting life history strategies depending coral reef species: although favour others do not undergo ontogenetic shifts thus other must considered when designing management plans protect fish. Overall, our surveys show importance zones lifecycle numerous species highlight potential long-term impacts communities.

Influence of live coral cover on coral-reef fish communities
The effect of percentage live coral cover on the number of fish species and individuals was determined by censusing fish from a series of reefs of comparable structural complexity, but with different proportions of live coral, in the lagoon of Mataiva Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago. Regression analysis showed that there was a highly significant (p < 0.001) positive relationship between live coral c...

متن کاملFishing degrades size structure of coral reef fish communities.
Fishing pressure on coral reef ecosystems has been frequently linked to reductions of large fishes and reef fish biomass. Associated impacts on overall community structure are, however, less clear. In size-structured aquatic ecosystems, fishing impacts are commonly quantified using size spectra, which describe the distribution of individual body sizes within a community. We examined the size sp...

متن کاملThe Fish Communities of a Coral Reef Transect!
As a contribution to the discussion on the causes of the high fish species diversity found on coral reefs, a coast-to-sea transect has been studied in the lagoon of Moorea Island (French Polynesia) in order to uncover the spatial scales at which recurrent assemblages (i.e., communities) can be identified . The transect was divided into 22 stations where fishes were sampled. According to the nul...
